First American Data & Analytics Adds Enhanced 3D Mapping To Industry-Leading DataTree® Solution

SANTA ANA, Calif., Nov. 09, 2021 – First American Data & Analytics, a division of First American Financial Corporation (NYSE: FAF) and a leading national provider of property and ownership data and advanced analytic solutions, announced today that it has added enhanced 3D mapping functionality to DataTree®, its industry-leading real estate research solution. DataTree users now have enhanced visualization capabilities for 150 million residential properties. The 3D enhancement will make DataTree even more useful to real estate investors, builders, utility companies, surveyors and more.

“DataTree is the first and only real estate research site that can provide this level of visualization, as well as property and ownership detail needed to make sound investment, marketing and planning decisions,” said Robert Karraa, president of First American Data & Analytics. “Ongoing enhancements, like our new 3D functionality, demonstrate our commitment to further DataTree’s position as the industry’s leading research platform for real estate insight.”

DataTree has traditionally provided a wide range of actionable information on properties, including owner’s name, valuation, Assessor’s Parcel Number (APN), parcel and plot lines, flood zones, etc. It also provides deep detail on ownership, taxes and liens. This new enhancement allows users to access 360-degree views of properties by tilting or rotating the satellite imagery to get a better understanding of the contours and elevation of the site’s terrain. With the new functionality, DataTree users can search single or multiple properties; compare 2D and 3D views; select different information overlays, such as parcel lines and flood zones; and use scaling, compass and pin features to better assess properties and expedite searches.

With 2D and 3D oblique technology, users only get a partial, flat view of the parcel and surrounding area. The new 3D mapping feature helps users identify the contour of the terrain, providing greater insight into whether a lot is buildable or not. For example, a 2D-only view might obscure a steep slope or a drop-off that might make the site unsuitable for building. The new 3D functionality allows users to visualize the contours of an empty parcel of land or what the land surrounding an existing structure looks like in terms of slope and elevation.

DataTree is built on the industry’s largest database of property and homeowner information and document images, spanning 99 percent of U.S. housing stock and including more than 7 billion recorded document images. Currently, more than 40,000 professionals in the mortgage, real estate and land services industries use the solution’s property-centric information to make informed business decisions.
